Project Management

What is the Project Management Tool?

The Project Management program is a powerful tool that can be used to manage project files associated with Isograph software products. It provides full project control and historical tracking to those using the software in a corporate or enterprise situation.

The product maintains the project files from the following Isograph products:

  • FaultTree+
  • Reliability Workbench
  • RCMCost
  • AvSim+
  • Hazop+
  • lccWare
  • AttackTree+
  • NAP

How does the Project Management Tool Work?

The project files are stored in a compressed format and stored in a SQL Server database. The Project Management program controls access to these projects, using a check-in/check-out methodology, preventing multiple users from working on an individual project at the same time.

The Project Management program can use either Windows or SQL Server authentication to allow users access to the database.

When Windows authentication is selected, existing Windows users or groups are simply granted access to the database, and then assigned a database role.

If SQL Server authentication is selected then new users have to be created, given a password, and then assigned a database role. When a database is created three default SQL Server users are created: project_admin, project_modify and project_read. These user names are assigned the three, corresponding, roles described below. By default members of the Windows Administrators group have full access to the database.

Three built-in user roles are created at installation: prj_admin, prj_modify and prj_read.

  • The prj_admin role allows the assigned user to create new databases, backup and restore databases, create new users and full access to the project database.
  • The prj_modify role allows the assigned user to check-out, modify and check-in project files stored in the database.
  • The prj_read role simply allows the assigned user to extract a project file from the database and view it.

An audit log is maintained in the database so that details of who created, modified and deleted a project file can be determined. This audit log can be filtered by user, project name, project type, date, action or version.

The use of SQL Server allows access to project data not only on a local area network but via the internet if required.
